Benefits of Trace Minerals for Prostate Health
Zinc is an essential mineral involved important to supporting a healthy immune system and promoting healthy antioxidant levels.* While zinc is necessary for all cells, it is found in large concentrations in the prostate gland, suggesting it is important for prostate health.* Since the body has no special storage system for zinc, it’s necessary to replenish the body daily. L-OptiZinc® is a unique mineral chelate that pairs zinc with the amino acid L-methionine. It is zinc mono-L-methionine with superior absorption, retention and antioxidant and cell protectant properties.* L-OptiZinc® is 1:1 complex of zinc and methionine, an amino acid that is well-absorbed by the body.*
Selenium is an antioxidant that plays an important role in protecting the cells from attacks by free radicals.* Free radicals are atoms with an unpaired number of electrons. Once formed, these highly reactive radicals attack healthy molecules, starting a chain reaction. In addition to being a powerful mineral responsible for fighting free radicals, selenium is may also support immune health and prostate health.* SelenoExcell® organic selenium originates from a non-pathogenic, non-GMO yeast strain that is the closest to food forms of selenium, like what is found in Brazil nuts, eggs, peas, poultry, and meats.* Because the form of selenium in SelenoExcell® is organic, it is attached to several amino acids, which may make it more bioavailable than other forms of selenium.*
Lycopene
Lycopene is packed with phytonutrients that may promote prostate health.* It is the body's most common carotenoid found in the liver, adrenal glands, lungs, prostate, colon, and skin. Derived from tomato, lycopene is responsible for the healthy red and orange colors of certain fruits and vegetables.* As an antioxidant, lycopene may help prevent damage to cellular structures throughout the human body.*
Saw Palmetto
Saw palmetto (Serenoa repens) has been valued for centuries for its potential health benefits for prostate and urinary health.* Among the main compounds of saw palmetto are fatty acids and sterols, the latter of which include beta-sitosterol, a substance believed to be effective in supporting prostate health.* Beta-sitosterol works by inhibiting the activity of 5-alpha- reductase. Saw palmetto may also reduce levels of DHT, or dihydrotestosterone, which is believed to adversely effect prostate health, by blocking the activity of 5-alpha-reductase and receptor sites on cell membranes that the cells need to absorb DHT.*
Pumpkin Seed Oil
Pumpkin seeds were traditionally used by Native American tribes to help support healthy bladder function.* Pumpkin seed oil has been included in products used to support urinary health.* One of the reasons pumpkin seed oil is renowned for its beneficial for bladder health is due to the high content of unadulterated parent Omega-6 (Linoleic Acid), an essential fatty acid.* Omega-6 may help ease urinary issues and support healthy prostate function.*
Organic Maca Root Powder
Historical use of Maca root by humans goes back thousands of years to the Andean highlands, where the ancient Inca, including their warriors, thrived on its vitamins, minerals, amino acids and fiber. It grows at altitudes above 10,000 feet where little else survives. Maca root has been used as a mood boosting adaptogen to increase stamina, boost libido and combat fatigue.* Gelatinized Maca may help to support healthy sexual health for men.* Gelatinization is an extrusion process that removes starch from Maca, thus concentrating the active ingredients.*
